Norway’s secular democratic system and ‘Soldiers of Odin’

Nasir Khan, February 23, 2016
The Rule of Law in Norway’s Secular Democratic System
This is the story of Norway, a secular democratic country in which there is the rule of law; and the rule of law is applicable to all citizens irrespective of their colour, their religion or their social status.

Here in this country you will see people from all corners of the world living together in peace, despite having different religions including a growing number of humanists and atheists, people with different ethnic backgrounds, different political affiliations and identities. But no one harasses them for that. In the Norwegian socio-political system, they are treated equally and humanely, without any institutionalised discriminatory laws against religious minorities, which we see in many Islamic countries.

Can anyone point to any Islamic country where there is the rule of law for all without any regard to their social status, religion or religious beliefs? I have not been able to find any such country.

The Soldiers of Odin group debuted in Norway this week as dozens of men patrolled the streets of several towns in the country, securing streets from “delinquency” that the police are “unable to address.”

Volunteer patrolmen wearing black bomber jackets emblazoned with the group’s Viking helmet logo were seen in Stavanger, Drammen, and Kristiansand over the weekend.

“We want the streets to be safe, we want to get rid of the delinquency we see in Norway today which the police are unable to address,” Ronny Alte, the Soldiers of Odin’s Norwegian spokesman, told AFP.

According to Alte, “drugs are being sold, girls are being touched, there are assaults and violence” as a result of the 31,000 asylum seekers that arrived in Finland last year.

Roger Waters: Pink Floyd star on why his fellow musicians are terrified to speak out against Israel

Independent, February 20, 2016

Exclusive: ‘If they say something they will no longer have a career – I have been accused of being a Nazi and an anti-Semite’

American musicians who support boycotting Israel over the issue of Palestinian rights are terrified to speak out for fear their careers will be destroyed, according to Roger Waters.
The Pink Floyd star – a prominent supporter of the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) campaign against Israel since its inception 10 years ago – said the experience of seeing himself constantly labelled a Nazi and anti-Semite had scared people into silence.

“The only response to BDS is that it is anti-Semitic,” Waters told The Independent, in his first major UK interview about his commitment to Israeli activism. “I know this because I have been accused of being a Nazi and an anti-Semite for the past 10 years.

Fight against anti-Semitism and Islamophobia

Nasir Khan, February 19, 2016

To blame all Jews for the crimes of the Zionist state of Israel is simply wrong and totally absurd. It is absurd in the same way as to blame all Muslims for the crimes of the Taliban, Muslim fanatics and Daesh.

Both anti-Semitism and Islamophobia are deceptive anti-human attitudes that bear extremely dangerous consequences for civilised people everywhere. These should not only be rejected by all but also be fought against by all. Zionists should be exposed for what they stand for and what have been doing in occupied Palestine; they should not be allowed to take shelter behind the smokescreen of ‘anti-Semitism’ that they sucessfully use to cover up their crimes against the occupied people of Palestine.

No Place For Anti-semitism
THE decision by Labour Students to hold an investigation into allegations of anti-Semitism at Oxford University Labour Club (OULC) is welcome.
There is no room for anti-Semitism or any other form of hatred based on ethnicity, colour or religion in the labour movement.

Anti-Semitism has traditionally been encouraged by powerful groups in society to divide working people. It ought to have breathed its last when Germany’s nazi regime was extinguished in 1945, putting an end to the Holocaust — the industrialised extermination of Jews, Gypsies and others designated “subhuman” by the nazis.

But this constantly mutating virus persists not only as the result of centuries of propaganda directed against Jews by some Christian denominations but also because of newer, and nonetheless false, rationales for such hatred.

The Palestinians and their Struggle for Freedom

Nasir Khan, February 8, 2016

To murder any person, Israeli or Palestinian, is not just because of ‘human nature’! In normal circumstances, any act of premeditated homicide is a crime in any state where the rule of law prevails. There are also ‘abnormal’ political circumstances when a people occupy another people’s country and keep their occupation with the force of their military might, as Israelis have done for many decades, then the Palestinians are fighting for their freedom against a brutal occupier under extremely difficult conditions of subjugation and deprivation.

Nonetheless, they have also another degrading and abject option open to them. They can give up all struggle for freedom and just surrender all their rights and their national aspirations and prostrate themselves before their powerful occupiers. In that case, they can say that Israel can do whatever it wants to do with them but they will not raise a finger to resist the occupying power and will willingly accept slavery of the Zionist power forever.

The Zionists, the supporters of Zionism, warmongers and all anti-human reactionaries will be very happy if the Palestinians abdicated all their national rights because Israel and its main supporter, the United States of America, are militarily and politically too strong in the Middle East that is under their geopolitical domination. However, to take such a position in the eyes of the rest of the civilised world will mean surrendering the very basic instinct or impulse that makes people human, who have dignity and a sense of human values.

We who value human emancipation and seek an end to the Israeli brutal occupation stand with the people of Palestine in their struggle for freedom. The brave people of Palestine will never surrender their national rights and their legitimate struggle.
