What the upcoming Israeli/Palestinian peace summit should entail

“The tragedy of the Palestinian people is that their country was ‘given’ by a foreign power to another people for the creation of a new state. The result was that many hundreds of thousands of innocent people were made permanently homeless. With each new conflict their num- bers increase. How much longer is the world willing to endure this spectacle of wanton cruelty?” Bertrand Russell, Cairo 1970.

Today Israel occupies over 78% of the Palestinian peoples’ historic homeland of Palestine instead of its 55% UN share in 1948 and is responsible for almost wiping them and Palestine off the map by uprooting hundeds of thousands of innocent Palestinians from their homes and some 500 villages to make way for incoming settlers and condemn them to a wretched life in over crowded refugees for the last 60 years by refusing to allow them to return in accor- dance with UN Resolution 194.

Yet Israeli officials have the audacity to allow strangers from foreign continents to return to Israel and offers them generous incentives to live in the Palestinian territories. Lands they have illegally occupied since the 1967 war under international law.

Daily the Israeli Army violates the Palestinian peoples’ human rights and sovereign rights by keeping them under an illegal occupation and siege and by running roughshod over their land, conficating their natural resources, barring them from traveling on their roads and indeed barricading them at gunpoint behind checkpoints and a wall while their officials have the audacity to reject Hamas officials who were elected to represent their rights in a fair & clean election bid and target kills Palestinian militants who oppose their unlawful presence in the territories.

When will Israeli officials realize there are some laws and moral principles no one can violate and they need to withdraw their troops from the territories and evacuate their settlements and let the Palestinian people live their lives in peace? In solidarity, Dutch
