Srinagar, Aug 25: In a massive crackdown against pro-freedom leaders heading the present movement in the Valley, police on Monday arrested at least 100 leaders including JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik. While senior Hurriyat leaders Shabir Ahmed Shah and Nayeem Khan, JKLF ( R) leaders Muhammad Salim Nanaji, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Hurriyat (G) leader Masrat Alam, chairperson of Dukhtarne-Millat Asiya Andrabi evaded the arrest. Chairmen of both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) were arrested late last night.

Sources said that about 100 second rung pro-freedom leaders were taken into custody during the past 24 hours to prevent them from participating in the Lal Chowk march-- call for which was given by the Coordination Committee (CC), an amalgam of various pro-freedom and other social organizations.

Officials said the arrests were made as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident in the city.

Sources said troops and police conducted night-long raids at several places but could not arrest the underground leaders.
